Mycology
Fall is the time to follow the smells. If you could see what I smell you would not be so linear.
The fungi are sporing and the smells of rotting wood, and the scent of the leaves as their flesh evaporates creates a sensual smorgasbord.
Our walks, while short as the crow flies, (which crow? Why does it fly so straight?) are much longer as I zig, sniff, and zag.
Sometimes I get him to stop, maybe not to smell the roses, but at least look at the fungi.
It is the process not the goal.
